1st Annual Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference

We are pleased to announce the 1st Annual Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference. This meeting will be held on September 22-24, 2013, at the Residenz, the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs, in Munich, Germany. The German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) is a partner in this new event.

The Helmholtz Diabetes Center at Helmholtz Zentrum München and Nature Medicine intend to initiate a reocurring, high-impact conference series in which top leaders in the field of diabetes interact to facilitate the identification of, and potential solutions to, the preeminent scientific challenges facing the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.
The conference is organized by Matthias Tschöp, Research Director of Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC), Helmholtz Zentrum München, and Randy Levinson, Senior Editor of Nature Medicine.

The conference will feature two award presentations, the Helmholtz Young Investigator Diabetes (HeIDi) Award, in recognition of a rising star, and the Helmholtz Diabetes Lecture, in recognition of the lifetime achievements of a senior leader in the field. The Helmholtz Diabetes Lecture 2013 will be awarded to Dr. C. Ronald Kahn of the Joslin Diabetes Center (Harvard Medical School).

Diabetes mellitus is among the most widespread diseases in Germany and worldwide. The objective of diabetes research is to develop new approaches for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) is a partner of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD), a national association for excellent diabetes research. In cooperation with the Universities of Munich the HMGU makes a major contribution to the health research program of the German government. The Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference aims to foster international scientific exchange to accelerate progress toward curing diabetes.
