Honorary Doctorate of the University of Leipzig for DZD Researcher Matthias Tschöp

The University of Leipzig today awarded Professor Matthias Tschöp an honorary doctorate. Tschöp is director of the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Zentrum München and director of the research area "New Therapeutic Concepts" at the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD).

"Matthias Tschöp is one of a small number of outstanding scientists worldwide in the fields of endocrinology and diabetology,” said Prof. Dr. Michael Stumvoll, dean of the Medical Faculty, honoring the work of the diabetes researcher. Professor Tschöp’s research activities focus on the causes and mechanisms of diabetes and obesity. Tschöp and his team are looking for new therapeutic approaches for the personalized prevention and treatment of diabetes and obesity.
Matthias Tschöp is head of the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Zentrum München, is chair of Metabolic Diseases at Technische Üniversität München, and is head the research area "New Therapeutic Concepts" in the DZD.
