DZD Scientist Receives Young Investigator Award

For her research on obesity and diabetes mellitus, Dr. Julia Szendrödi, Ph.D., director of the Clinical Research Center (CRC) unit at the German Diabetes Center (DDZ) in Düsseldorf, which is a partner in the DZD, has received the Young Investigator Award of the European Association for the Study of Obesity, (EASO). The award was presented to her at this year’s EASO Annual Meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Since 2004 Dr. Szendrödi has been investigating the pathomechanisms of diabetes mellitus associated with obesity, the main risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. At the German Diabetes Center Dr. Szendrödi coordinates the ongoing Germany-wide prospective German Diabetes Study, in which healthy subjects and subjects with freshly manifested diabetes are extensively studied in order to develop new therapy forms for the treatment of diabetes.

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), which was founded in 1986, is a scientific and practice-oriented professional organization with networks in 30 countries. The Association promotes research on obesity and is committed to reducing the problem of unhealthy excess weight in Europe. As part of its annual meetings, the Association honors scientists for their research work on obesity.
