For Diabetes Experts of Tomorrow: 1st Diabetes Day in Aachen

The first Diabetes Day in Aachen at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) on April 5th was aimed at students of medicine, biology and biotechnology.

The around 70 participants were offered a varied program with presentations and workshops organized by the Working Group for Young Talents of the German Diabetes Association (DDG). DZD speaker Professor Annette Schürmann of the German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam-Rehbrücke and DDG President Professor Dirk Müller-Wieland moderated the event.

The focus was on scientific introductions to type 1 and type 2 diabetes as well as secondary diseases of diabetes. Professor Schürmann conducted a workshop on "Molecular Mechanisms and Translational Research", and DZD scientist Dr. Carolin Daniel from Helmholtz Zentrum München presented her research on type 1 diabetes.

A further focus was on career opportunities in the field of diabetes in research and in the clinic as well as diabetology in the state examination and in the basic medical examination.
