The children participating in the initiative "SMS. Sei schlau. Mach mit. Sei fit." (in English: Be smart. Join in. Be fit.) of the DZD partner German Diabetes Center in Düsseldorf are completing a training session offered by the Fortuna soccer team at the Flinger Broich soccer stadium and sports center.

Shortly before the beginning of the World Cup Championship Tournament in soccer, Fortuna Düsseldorf soccer team has invited elementary school students participating in the initiative "SMS. Sei schlau. Mach mit. Sei fit." [Be smart. Join in. Be fit.] to a training session in the sports center at Flinger Broich. The training units are led by coaches of the Fortuna junior soccer teams. "Teaching children how to lead a healthy lifestyle is an important social mission for us as a soccer club in the German League. That is why the initiative of the German Diabetes Center "SMS. Sei schlau. Mach mit. Sei fit." means so much," said Sascha Rösler, a former player in the German League. "We are very glad to support Fortuna’s commitment to this initiative, which was launched during the last school year.
The initiative "SMS. Sei schlau. Mach mit. Sei fit." led by the DZD scientist Professor Karsten Müssig shall raise the awareness of children in Düsseldorf elementary schools for the benefits of healthy nutrition and more exercise. The two health insurance companies IKK classic and KKH, and renowned partners and Düsseldorf celebrities support the project. The patron is Dirk Elbers, mayor of the state capital of Düsseldorf. Furthermore, the partners of the SMS Initiative – Fortuna Düsseldorf, Borussia Düsseldorf, the Düsseldorf EG, Sportwerk Düsseldorf, the Sports Department of Düsseldorf, the Swimming Pools Association of Düsseldorf, the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation, the Artisan Bakers’ Association of Düsseldorf, the Weber School Düsseldorf and the Hotel Courtyard by Marriott Seestern – provide the children with very attractive venues for learning outside of school.
